Charity Begins at Home . . .

Friday, Dec 5th

Charity begins at home . . . at least that's what I tell your dad every night when I want a back rub!
I have been doing some thinking about Christmas charity, paying it forward during the holidays, giving something of meaning to someone who really needs it, etc. It began when we revved up our Christmas Elf team at school. It is a sobering and humbling endeavor every year to put together the lists of kids and families who receive gifts and food from the staff donations we take in. I can't help but notice that each year it is easier to create the list, and each year we try to squeeze on a few more names.
There are too few things I will miss about TOSH when I leave, but I will miss this heart-aching, heart-growing ritual. I feel privileged when I talk to the families and ask their permission to add their names to the list, and I try to be aware enough to respect their dignity and pride.
So, for tonight's blog a challenge to my five kids and to your father and me. Find a way to play Santa for an unsuspecting person over the next week - a loved one, a co-worker, a stranger. Perform a little Christmas miracle (a coffee, a special treat, a poinsetta - my favourite!. mittens - you get the idea).
I know you all do kind things for others everyday. Next week, do something in the spirit of Christmas giving . . . and tell me about it!!

Love you all - proud of you all!!
xoxo
